Hemu is the Hawaiian word for "Shoo!" which we thought was perfect for our natural insect repellent. Karen's relatives from France were visiting Luana Farm, the mosquitoes were in full force, and they smelled "fresh blood." Karen thought about which plants on our farm didn't have mosquitoes buzzing around them and mixed up some essential oils that provided instant relief. With some further research and discussions with a visiting entomologist (we had a dengue scare on The Big Island) we now have a ridiculously effective DEET-free repellent.

Cinnamon, catnip, rosemary, lemon eucalyptus, and much more; there are over 80 drops of essential oil in every bottle of Hemu. Combined with castor oil, which fools the mosquitoes into thinking you are a tree, and witch hazel to create an aura of protection due to evaporation, and you have never been safer from those flying pests.
